Award winning broadcaster, song-writer and celebrated musician Jamie Cullum has announced the release of ‘Interlude’ the Jazz Album featuring Laura Mvula and Grammy Award winning Jazz vocalist and songwriter Gregory Porter.
Jamie Cullum’s musical taste is eclectic, his recordings are equally diverse from heart breaking ballads to live sampling and beat boxing….Most recently his music can be heard on collaborations with Rizzle Kicks, Birdy, Labrinth, including alternative supergroup Deltron 3030. Jamie Cullum is UK’s best-selling Jazz artiste who regularly hosts a Jazz broadcast that spans the whole of Europe. With his new Album ‘Interlude’ it is his innate love of music that shines through, a collection of 12 tracks from his earliest days of Jazz recorded with incredible musicians, just like it used to be….
Through his Jazz show for BBC Radio 2, and a chance meeting on the British Jazz scene Jamie met Ben Lamdin a producer who works under the name Nostalgia 77. Having both listened to Rock music, Drum n Bass to Hip-Hop and discovered Jazz through acts like DJ Shadow and a Tribe Called Quest, Ben set to work with an amazing analogue studio in North London making music for around 10 years, ‘I’ve been a fan ever since’ quotes Jamie. Jamie and Ben began recording, and writing together which led to a collaboration with bass player Riaan Vosloo, together they produced 16 live tracks in only 3 days.
Creating a sound that was ‘rough around the edges’ Jamie enlisted the sultry vocals of Laura Mvula, and the outstanding Gregory Porter.
The lead single ‘Don’t let me be misunderstood’ is a remarkable classic Jazz standard by Jamie, featuring the powerhouse Gregory Porter, the vocals are subtly interweaved like a fine tuned Bass, stylish resonance has been captured in a unique and spell binding duet that will stand the test of time.
We can attribute the stylish excellence of many tracks on the Album, to Jamie’s ability to listen and understand a cross section of music styles and Genres. The formidable tracks on ‘Interlude’, include Good morning heartache, featuring the haunting vocals of Laura Muvla, Jamie oozes the stylish Sinatra, fun gifted music for purveyors of Classic Jazz standards who love heavy sax, strings in abundance…having recently performed at London’s Ronnie Scotts Jazz Club to the Jazz Glitterati he enlisted Jason Rebello..to bring the Album to life.
Nat King Cole’s Walkin’, Cullum delivers ‘Sack O Woe’ revisits the delightful Sax, soft tambourine hand-clapping smokey heady nights in the Blues bars of New Orleans..this is a joyful collaboration, allowing magnificent artistes to masterfully perform. Jamie Cullum has become a virtuoso of his own brand of Jazz, he will remain one of the UK’s best Jazz artistes…
WICKED…CLASSY JAZZ …. Superb! Thank you Jamie!
